Millennium Biltmore Hotel
Monday Feb 06, 2017
Monday Feb 06, 2017
Had a wonderful talk with Kendra Walker who is with the Historic Bilmore Hotel in Downtown LA> We talked about the history of the hotel and archecture. the Biltmore's exterior in a synthesis of the Spanish-Italian Renaissance Revival, Mediterranean Revival, and Beaux Arts styles, meant as an homage to the Castilian heritage of Los Angeles. The "Biltmore Angel" is heavily incorporated into the design—as a symbol of the city as well as the Biltmore itself. With a thick steel and concrete frame, the structure takes up half a city block and rises over 11 stories.
The interiors of the Biltmore Hotel are decorated with: frescos and murals; carved marble fountains and columns; massive wood-beamed ceilings; travertine and oak paneled walls; lead crystal chandeliers; cast bronze stairwells and doorways; fine artisan marquetry and mill work; and heavily embroideredimported tapestries and draperies. Most notable are the frescoed mural ceilings in the main Galleria and the Crystal Ballroom, which were hand painted in 1922 by Italian artist Giovanni Smeraldi, known for his work in the Vatican and the White House.

Pat Simmons Jr., Pat Sr. and Cris on his new Cd
Thursday Feb 02, 2017
Thursday Feb 02, 2017
Pat Simmons Jr. grew up in a dual world, both on the road with his father's band The Doobie Brothers, exploring concert halls, and at home being a kid exploring the rugged Redwood coastline in Northern California. He moved with his family to Maui, Hawaii at age six. There, Pat was raised close to nature, around waterfalls and waves, immersed in Hawaiian culture. Maui has developed in him a powerful sense of love and respect for the land and the traditional native stewards. In 2012, Pat received a degree in Ecology from The Evergreen State College.
A cancer survivor, a local organic food/plant enthusiast, and lover of indigenous ways of living sustainably, Pat Simmons Jr. is first and foremost, a Maui boy."This Mountain" is Pat's debut studio album. Six original songs that tell stories of his life on Maui. The album features the stunning voice of local native Hawai'ian practitioner and award winning musician, Keali'i Reichel, on the title track "Mauna Mele". Also feature performances by local island favorite Willie K, as well as Elvin Bishop and Pat's father Pat Simmons Sr. of The Doobie Brothers. Recorded on Maui, HI
