A talk with American Roots Recording Artist Grant Maloy Smith about his new CD Dust Bowl. He heard the strains of bluegrass from his Kentucky-born and raised Grandmother, and it got into his blood. His 2013 album, the critically-acclaimed “Yellow Trailer,” is a collection of heartfelt songs that will take you on an invigorating ride through the fabled American south. His new album “Dust Bowl - American Stories,” has been widely anticipated by his fans all over the world. In Dust Bowl, every song is set squarely in the Great Plains of the 1930's, during the worst economic and environmental disaster that America has ever seen. This much anticipated event will convene Hawaii’s most reputable artisans, educators, cultural practitioners, speakers and entertainers, April 14 – 16, during the 25th Annual Celebration of the Arts. The theme for the 2017 event is “Wahi Mahalo…A Universal Thank You” in honor of the 25th anniversary of Celebration of the Arts.
Opening ceremonies include traditional Hawaiian oli (chants) from Hawaiian practitioners while music and hula will be continuous throughout the weekend. Hands-on art, demonstrations, films, cultural panels, music and dance will act as the common ground to allow visitors and residents the opportunity to interact and enjoy the “Number 1 rated cultural event” according Modern Luxury Hawaii magazine. The Celebration of the Arts has also been the recipient of the coveted “Keep it Hawaii Kahili Award” presented by the Hawaii Tourism Association.
The Celebration of Island Tastes will culminate the weekend festivities and is a brand new twist on the traditional Celebration Lu’au and Show! Hawaiian food prepared by Hawaiian hands – from various local families, non-profits, vendors and practitioners. Stroll through the Pavilion and fill your plates with the best prepared traditional and contemporary lu’au foods in the State on this given night. Live entertainment will complete the ambiance as you engage in conversation and perhaps obtain a secret recipe!
The Celebration After-Hours Party is the finale and is held in the hotel’s Salon Ballroom with no cover charge from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Friday and Saturday night. The finest talent in Hawaii will take the stage with impromptu performances in a fun filled jam-session that reflects upon the spirit of aloha that the islands are known for. I talked with Chell Pahinui, Cyril's wife about his health. He is getting off ventilator. His wife Chell says"vitals are stable and he is oxygenating well. They are working to stabilize as he begins healing." The Pahinui family has asked fans and friends to hold off on bringing lei and flowers to Queen's -- they are not allowed in ICU and may not be helpful for Cyril as his lungs heal.
They are asking fans instead to purchase T-shirts for the upcoming Gabby Pahinui Waimanalo Kanikapila on April 23, 2016. The family is using the event as a goal for Cyril to get better. Cyril said he hopes to be at the event next month.

Had a talk with Diane Haynes Woodburn, Publisher, of Maui No Kaoi Magazine about he 21st anniversary of Maui No Kaoi Magazine.
Diane arrived in Hawaiʻi in 1974 with a backpack, a master’s degree, and a naïve sense of adventure. After surviving more than one death-defying escapade, she settled on Maui to teach at the community college—but soon found the entrepreneurial spirit irresistible. Her love affair with publishing began in 1983 with the launch of her first magazine, Art to Onions. Today she takes great joy in giving back to the Maui community, gardening at her home in Kula, and cooking for her family and friends.http://mauimagazine.net
