“The Go For Broke Spirit: Portraits of Courage” photographer Shane Sato on Saturday, September 29, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. at the Maui Adult Day Care

Center hall located on the NVMC campus, 665 Kahului Beach Rd, Kahului.

Over 18 years in the making, Sato’s coffee table book is a collection of

poignant images of the Nisei who fought for America in WWII while at the same time America was forcing Japanese-Americans into internment camps.

Danaë Vlasse, A Fantastic Pianist who is a Citizen of the World

Danaë Vlasse is the director of Music Vision Studios, where she teaches piano, theory and composition. She is an MTNA Nationally Certified Teacher with a degree in Piano Performance and over 15 years of teaching experience. As a composer she has contributed to the film industry, and her work as been featured on international radio broadcast. She is a recipient of the Clouzine International Music Awards, Radio Music Awards, multi-recipient of the Global Music Awards, and the Prestige Music Awards, as well as a multiple-winner of the MTAC “Composers Today” Advanced Division, multiple-winner of the Indie Music Channel Awards, nominated at the Producer's Choice Awards, the Independent Music Awards, and multi-nominated at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards. Furthermore, she is active in collaborations with other composers from all over the world; she has worked with composers and musicians living all over Europe, the Middle-East and India. 

        Nearly all of Mrs. Vlasse’s music has been premiered; most recently, her music has been performed by pianists Nadia Spachenko, Mina Perry, Robert Thies, Bryan Pezzone, Brendan White, Tri Nguyen (France), Arsen Jamkotchian, Carlos Marquez (Spain), Joaquim Bonal Sarro (Spain) and Harout Senekeremian, sopranos Hila Plitmann and Sangeeta Kuar, flutist Ying Li, chamber trio Artifacto

        David Wilcox, the director and choreographer of the Longbeach Ballet, has also choreographed dance to Danaë's music.

       People experience myriad transitional and, often, ambiguous emotional states; this album explores an intersection of the conscious mind and the subconscious while caught in dreams, memories, and longing. The album presents these concepts against the backdrop of transitions in nature, as portrayed through the ebb-and-flow of ocean tides, the passage of day into night, and the cycle of the seasons

Grammy Award winner Paul Avgerinos on his new release Mindfulness

I talked with grammy Award winner Paul Avgerinos about his new release Mindfulness. Paul Avgerions is an American composer, performer and producer of new-age music whose recordings for Round Sky Music are also classified in the genres of ambient, space, world, World Fusion, electronic and drone. Avgerinos also owns Studio Unicorn in Redding, Connecticut, which produces a wide variety of music for film, TV, commercials and albums of all kinds. Avgerinos is recognized as “One of the Giants of New Age Music“ by Jim Brenholts, All Music Guide. Avgerinos graduated from The Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University in 1981 as a full scholarship honors student in Bass Violin. He served as Principal Bass in the orchestras of Italy, Hong Kong and Venezuela and toured with Charles Aznavour and Buddy Rich before opening his own recording studio in 1985, Studio Unicorn.  Most of the Avgerinos New Age albums are careful blends of acoustic and electronic instruments, both well known and obscure, from around the world. Known for his sound design and layering talent, Avgerinos also plays Bass Violin, Cello, Guitars, Keyboards and Sings on his recordings. Inspired by Enya, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis and his orchestral background, Avgerinos often uses Romantic and Impressionistic techniques as he composes and arranges his New Age productions. Often employing wordless choirs, he sometimes uses lyrics as in his album of Sacred Chant, Phos Hilaron, and his album GNOSIS, which utilizes Greek Orthodox Chanting. Garden of Delight is his most critically acclaimed recording to date having won awards for Best World Album of the Year and CD of the Month on Echoes.Collaboration with Peter Kater on his Red Moon album yielded a final five Grammy Nomination in 2004. Best Album awards were also earned in 2006 and 2005 as well. Avgerinos's music has been in constant steady rotation on Music Choice, Sirius XM, Echoes, Hearts of Space, Musical Starstreams, Ultima Thule Ambient Music, and Star's End, since the inception of each broadcaster, many of them for more than twenty years. Avgerinos has created 10 music videos. As an engineer and producer, Avgerinos has worked with Aerosmith, Jewel, Run DMC, Willie Nelson, Deana Carter and The Celtic Tenors.

Peace, Music and Poems featured with little back story

Rev. Cindy Paulos has a released newCD that is dedicated to finding inner peace.

The CD combines songs and poems about peace. It features music by many Grammy award artists,

including Paul Avgerinos, George Kahumoku Jr., Ricky Kej, Pat Robinson, and Laura Sullivan.

Also featured on the CD are popular Hawaiian recording artistsMarty Dread and Eric Gilliom.

 Peace, Music and Poems has been submitted for Grammy consideration a Spoken Word CD and is produced by Cindy Paulos and Kenya Autie. It their third production together is the third collaboration with Grammy Award winning Oscar Autie, who Mixed and mastered it at El Cerrito Studio.
